Trainers from all over Hoenn—even some visiting veterans paying tribute to their preferred art—pile into the stadium as the finalists take to the arena for the FINAL ROUND of the POKEMON NUMBER ONE GRAND PRIX!

Despite the clamorous uproar and expected fanfare, the crowd falls silent when the Announcer calls out, drawing to their attention the grizzled martial artists surrounding the raised platform, one holding the CHAMPIONSHIP BELT—still ladden with dust-covered varnish since it last changed hands.

"Here we are, ladies and gents: The moment we've all been waiting for, and what a prize this is—" reaching for the artefact, it would be kept just out of his reach, displayed in upraised arms by the oldest martial artist in attendance. It's clear that these karate masters still take their traditions very seriously; only a true practitioner will be able to lay a hand on this fabled prize. Clearing his throat, the announcer continues to reign in the crowd.

"As finalists, they have already proven themselves beyond compare, and yet," he slowly gestures with his arm before pointing to the karate masters pointedly. "As tradition dictates, this final match is decided when there is only one left standing. There will be NO time limits, NO nuanced point system to score them by—these finalists will RISE or FALL by the strength of their backs and the force of their blows." As their ancestors once had.

"There will be no holds barred, and contenders are free to use any ADAPTATIONS, BOOSTS or EVOLUTIONS at their disposal. A winner will not be declared until a contestant can no longer stand against their challenger!"

The audience is going wild, chomping at the bit to see these two pokemon throw down, and even those practiced in the arts show keen interest, the gleam in their eyes betraying the sheer thrill of this spectator sport.

"And now that they know the stakes—" The announcer raises a hand before slicing it through the air emphatically, driving home his point as he shouts:

"LET THE FINAL MATCH... BEGIN!"

ADJUSTED RULESET

Unless stated otherwise, previous rules remain completely UNCHANGED.
_{EXTREME SPEED has been added to the KNOCKOUT MOVE LIST in order to promote competitivity and balance out the move economy for the final match. (See HERE)}

When undergoing MEGA EVOLUTION a contestant will RESTORE TORPOR by 50 POINTS. The activation of the mega evolution must be declared before the contestant would hit 0 TORPOR, not after, or it will fail and they will be knocked out. Contestants CANNOT exceed the 151 TORPOR LIMIT!

MEGA EVOLUTION allows one to declare a SECOND KNOCKOUT. There is no restriction for holding onto both knockouts even past the evolution.

MEGA EVOLUTION will fade after THREE POSTS and cannot be extended without a MEGA EXTENDER, bringing them to FIVE POSTS TOTAL.

BONUSES outlined below apply inside and outside of KNOCKOUTS.

getting to this point was a foregone conclusion; destiny, if ever a concept could be believed. but, there was still more stepping stone to go, before he'd reach the apex. and to get there? he'd step over luka chêne's warm body.

lucario takes the stage to thunderous applause, but the jackal drowns it out. he'd fought a number of blaziken over his lifetime, most notably, KING WAYLAND's own. but, the defeat to Lulu Flint's all those months ago leave a bitter taste in his mouth. one he'd rectify today.

standing, posture relaxed but awareness expanded, he waits. his opponent would go FIRST.

Helios doesn't answer, of course. Instead he turns to Luka, staring down at her with a blazing blue stare. After a moment of consideration he nods, more to himself than anything, and presses a stone into Luka's hands.[break][break]

A Blazikenite.[break][break]

Luka swallows thickly as she stares down at it. It's heavy in her palm and warm, like an ember. She'd seen it dozens of time before, wielded by her father with an expert hand. Somehow, the weight of that expectation is daunting. "Are you sure? I barely did anything, this was all you—"[break][break]

Helios merely grunts and extends his arm. An empty bracelet is tied around his wrist and after a moment, Luka places the stone there. She hesitates a beat longer, then suddenly and swiftly pulls him into a hug.[break][break]

Her father's Blaziken stiffens. Then, awkwardly, he raises a hand to pat the top of her head, like he used to do when she was small. Luka smiles against the feathers of his chest, sniffs once, and lets him go.[break][break]

"You're going to do great out there," she promises. "And I'll do my best to help you out, okay?"[break][break]

It's almost poetic for him to have started this tournament against a Riolu only to end with KING WAYLAND's Lucario. Helios steps into the center of the ring and sizes up his opponent, talons digging into the earth beneath him. After having started off his last fight on such bad footing, Helios is determined not to repeat the same mistake.[break][break]

He nods once, a courtesy. Steam pours from his mouth as he inhales, centering himself and assuming a fighting stance. Feet apart, arms raised, focus clear and razor-sharp.[break][break]

And he does indeed move first, lunging forwards with a burst of speed and a flurry of quick, precise punches. He doesn't start out strong but he starts out fast, refusing to allow his opponent any time to strategize or build up momentum against him.

blaziken's were powerfully built creatures, designed with unparalleled leg strength. this, of course, coupled with a well-trained pokemon, meant that their speed had the capacity to be explosive.

luka chêne's was adequate.
[break][break]
each punch is thrown with a reckless abandon designed to keep lucario on his back foot — it works, but not because of the onslaught of attacks like the blaziken might've expected. the jackal easily DETECTS each attack, ducking and weaving out of the way at just the last second.

fatigue was one of the most powerful tools you could use against your opponent, and having barely spent any effort (at least, comparatively to the fire-type), lucario was arguably winning the early battle of attrition. a small feat, considering the fight ahead, but one he'd take.

in an impressive display of speed himself, he pushes off and creates distance between the two of them, face expressionless as he stares the blaziken down. then, with a twitch of a smile, the lucario bounds after the blaziken.

For the moment, it seems that the pair is evenly matched.[break][break]

Though Helios exerts himself the most he allows his opponent to gain no ground. And despite his age he's still spry, able to take the deflected hits with no more than a cuff to the chin. The pair of them moves in almost perfect synchronicity; every action has an equal and opposite reaction.[break][break]

But with this next attack, Helios hopes to tip the scales.[break][break]

This time he takes up the defensive, lithe body moving like water to evade and avoid. But he doesn't move far, eyes fixed on his opponent and analyzing every moment. The first time an opening presents itself his leg shoots out like a javelin, a low and sweeping kick aimed for the back of the knees.[break][break]

the leg sweep catches lucario on his shin, the jackal leaning forward enough to cement his position into the strike. he grunts against the vibration of the strike, the pain a dull echo.

the result, however, is that his footing remains solid, and he uses it to unleash a METEOR MASH straight at the blaziken's chest.

The blow lands, and it's hard.[break][break]

Helios is forced back several feet with a low grunt of pain, though he remains upright and, in shifting his ribs, can maintain that none are broken. He's lucky- it could have been far worse at such a close range.[break][break]

If his opponent wants to play with steel, he'll respond in fire. Smoke curls from the Blaziken's nostrils as flames lick at his wrists, crawling up towards pointed talons. His fire punch is blunt and straightforward as he races towards the Lucario, aiming for the same place he'd just been struck.[break][break]

the strike is inevitable, and pain washes over his core as an intense heat, and blunt force collides with him. for a moment his aura sense becomes fuzzy, like static, but it returns quickly. a patch of fur is blackened, a scorch mark that looks almost identical to the taloned fist of the blaziken.

but he continues his offensive.

years of practice allow lucario to focus his EXTREMESPEED into a fist that would make a mach punch look slow, and again, he centers it at the blaziken's abdomen.

The Lucario's punch lands with a resounding crack and the force of it is enough to knock Helios back several feet. Though he remains standing there's a spark of frustration in his eye, just the slightest wince curling into the corner of his mouth.[break][break]

It's clear that out of the two of them, the Blaziken has taken the most damage. But h'd turned the last match around in his favor and there's no saying he won't do so again. To give even an inch now already means accepting defeat.[break][break]

Helios spares a moment to breathe, steam pooling from his nostrils as his body temperature continues to rise. Like sinking into a warm bath, it soothes the pain in his abdomen and allows him to turn all focus back to the fight. With a grunt, he launches himself back towards the center of the ring, concentrating every blow taken into another explosive punch.[break][break]

despite the advantage, lucario remains calm, collected; never one to let his emotions get the better of him. a fight could turn around in an instant, after all.

the blaziken lances forward again, a streak of red, and white and golds. the two enter CLOSE COMBAT, their fists, kicks, and even headbutts connecting in a symphony of blows that deafen anything else — even the shouts of the audience.

king watches on in silence, face hidden behind the wrappings. beneath it, a smile curls.

Across the field, Luka fusses and frets over Helios. He's still standing, but she can tell he no longer holds the upper hand. His body and the Lucario's are nothing but blurs as the two engage in a close combat, and it's almost impossible to determine if her Blaziken can make it out of this.[break][break]

She shakes her head and slaps her face. It'll do her no good to lose faith in her Pokemon now. Briefly her gaze flits to the keystone brooch she wears, considering it...[break][break]

Helios is the first to break from the flurry of combat, but not for long. The fatigue wearing him down does little to sate his next attack, a furious blow wreathed in even more flame.[break][break]

the flame-wreathed strike carries enough force to push the lucario back, skidding on the balls of his paws. his instincts kick in, a plan forming in the haze of strike's pain.

a quick AURA SPHERE is palmed, and like thrusting out a flurry of sand, he tosses it at his opponent, even as he separates the distance.

It may not be enough to level the playing field, but it's enough to keep himself from being winded further. As silence falls between the two combatants the cheers of the crowd can be heard with more clarity: some screaming for the apparent victor, some rooting desperately for the underdog.[break][break]

Helios dodges just as the aura sphere is tossed his way and suffers only the most glancing blow. With wide gap between them now, he sucks in greedy gulps of air, centering himself and staving off a rush of adrenaline. It would do him no good to lose focus and be lost in animalistic fury.[break][break]

He circles the Lucario for a moment, blue eyes narrowed into slits. And then he makes a move again, this time aiming with quick, precise blows, talons coated not in flame but an eerie, purple glow.[break][break]
